The Adrian Peterson Conundrum – Charles in Charge a Better Pick?

I have been blessed with AP’s presence for the past 2 years. I won my keeper PPR league last year by the grace of LaGarrett Blount. AP screwed my pooch yet again in the fantasy playoffs. AP is a stud. I will not deny that. He will finish in the top 7 fantasy backs. However, drafting him at the 3 spot will be a disappointment to that owner. He will underperform. So, do I dare recommend drafting Jamaal Charles over AP?! While, YES, I do! I’m all about the upside play. Call Charles the Hakeem Nicks of 2010.

AP has become the entire Minnesota O. Does Michael Jenkins or Devin Aromashodu strike fear into your heart? The only quality WR that MIN has is a migraine plagued Percy Harvin. I love Harvin but he isn’t a deep threat. So with an aging McNabb at QB the Vikings will run the AP offense. I’m concerned that teams will simply go back to stacking the box against AP. If they are successful then AP’s numbers will fall.

I would rather role the dice and go with a Charles whose role will only grow this season. Steve Breaston is a greater upgrade then Jenkins or Aromashodu. Jamaal had an impressive 2010 (even w. sharing carries with old man Thomas Jones) —- 1467 yards running, 45 receptions for 468 yards, and 8 TDS. AP produced 1298 yards running, 36 receptions for 341 yards, and 13 TD. AP had more TDs but less catches and combined yardage.

Look to the future not the past. Jamaal Charles is worthy of drafting over AP….

  1. TD says:

Take this off! haha you gave away my sleeper Top 5 steal. Im trying to take him at 4. stop giving good insight.

  2. The Fantasy Flukie says:

@TD – haha I hear ya…Problem is I can’t convince many ppl on this topic. Most folks think AP is a slam dunk based on his consistancy. However, ff is a risk vs reward game and I’m all about the high upside risk play – more often then not it pays off!
