Kolb and Matthews FF Trade Fodder? Wild Wings Attempt to Save the NFL?

In my previous football keeper league a big trade just went down -Ryan Matthews, Owen Daniels, and Kevin Kolb FOR Antonio Gates and Pierre Garcon. Owen Daniels is slop on a stick so once you throw him out of the mix it comes purely down to upside. Does Ryan Matthews have more upside then Pierre Garcon? Tough Call. Matthews had a very disappointing rookie year. Much of that was due to injury and the emergence big bruising Mike Tolbert. Matthews 678 yard, 7 TD campaign was sad compared to Mike Tolbert’s 735 yard, 11 TDs. If you combined the two you may have something but from an individual standpoint neither one is fantasy football elite. That is unless the NFL wins the battle for 18 games. Then the entire landscape changes for fantasy football. However, the way the strike is playing it looks like 2011-12 football will remain 16 games.

If they ever agree to a contract most certainly Kevin Kolb will be traded. The problem is it all depends where he lands. If Kolb lands in Arizona then this trade looks better for the Kolb/Matthews recipient. However, I don’t believe in moving big time talent for a QB ? – QBs like Bradford and Freeman emerge every year so is Kolb really a bonus? Now, if Kolb lands in Cincinnati? We will pray for a slow and certain football death.

Antonio Gates is a great, great fantasy player. I seriously worry about that foot. That being said I feel confident in AG for another season. Pierre Garcon has been up and down. His “hype” hasn’t reached his “potential.” Especially, with the emergence of Austin Collie. There is a good chance that Collie’s career is over. If that is the case then Garcon’s value rebounds astronomically. Especially with one of the top 4 QBs in the game chucking him the rock. Garcon’s last two seasons aren’t bad just not elite: 2010- 67 catches, 784 yards, and 6 TDs, 2009- 47 catches, 765 yards, and 4 TDs. I expected Garcon to be a high WR2 low WR1 this past year. It just didn’t happen. It comes down to two things— 1) whether Collie is done and 2) whether Blair White steps up. White ended 2010 with decent numbers for limited play- 36 receptions, 355 yards, and 5 TDs.

I have been on football protest but somthing has even me hope. Buffalo Wild Wings has started a save the NFL Season Campaign. It is about time someone decided to do something. They have started a petition on facebook and I emplore all fantasy football fans to like this. It is a small gesture but at least it is something. It allows those that are impacted (people like myself that run fantasy football blogs) to feel like they have a voice. They also have a press release on Business Wire- feel free to check it out.

I agree with your thought process. What I do not is agree with you removing my name from the articles that I wrote for you on this site. Do the right thing and put name back on those articles or you will hear from my attorney.

I love me some Garcon and at $2 with cheap/young wide receivers being so valuable it was a no brainer.

  3. Isles Guru says:

Anything Gold Standard does is a NO BRAINER.

While I NEVER look at keeper salaries while analyzes potential players $2 Garcon does look nice. However, one must ask will Blair White cut into Garcon’s production? It seems that Mannings likes to go over the middle as opposed to the outside on short counts!
