Is There Panic in Philville Pitching?

The flukie isn’t one to panic but these last two outing from Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels definitely raised my awareness. On Tuesday, Hamels got shellacked for 7 hits, 3 HRs, and 5 ERs in not even 4 innings of work. Today, Cliff Lee got roughed up for 7 hits, 3 ERs, and 2 HRs in 4 innings.

I believe this is an aberration and nothing to truly worry about. At least when it comes to Cliff Lee. Lee is a rock solid ace. He knows when to ramp it up and we all know Grapefruit league is kiddie time. Hamels does worry me a bit. He has been good but not great since his World Series MVP year. However, Hamels is the 3rd on this staff so no one should be drafting him too early(aka not before round 8).

I am comfortable with Hamels as the 3. Since he will be matching up against the 3 on most other rosters. He may surprise and pull in 20 wins this year. Even if his stuff isn’t absolutely mind blowing.

The obvious rock solid stud on the roster is Halladay. Lee will be just fine- don’t let this last outing fool you. Of the 4 innings he pitched he only got roughed up in the 4th and that was because he got behind in the count. He will make the adjustments and be a 1a stud. Every scrub has their day and spring training is a scrubs best chance. I’m not suprised the scrubs got amped up to play Lee.

Is there panic in Phillsville? Nah, Philly phans no better. Trust the flukie and have absolute confidence in drafting Lee and Hamels. As for the 4th – Blanton – that is all going to depend as to whether he is a Phil on opening day. The problem is us fantasy players don’t have that luxury. I’m still betting against him being on the roster. Especially, with injuries beginning to crop up on major league rosters….I can hear the Yankees calling now.
