The Yankees Misfit Fantasy Pitchers

If i were psychic in fantasy baseball I would be able to figure out who is going to fill out the back of the Yankees rotation. Freddy Garcia is on a minor league contract during spring training. However, he and 2nd year player Ivan Nova are my predicative favorites. Garcia (though old as crap) went 12-6 with a 4.64 ERA in 157 innings. Pretty damn good numbers for a has been. Nova on the other hand is the sleeper play. I got to think he might open the season as the 5th starter. Last year in limited play (10 games) he was 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA. Ya gotta figure if he continues his rock solid play in the “Grapefruit League” he has a starting job. To be frank, the Yankees are desperate.

To continue on the desperation play they are seriously considering bringing Kevin Millwood in and guaranteeing him a major league contract. Do you want to know how dismal he was last year with the Orioles? 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA and 190 innings pitched. At this point the Yankees look like a team just trying to buy old has beens with arms hanging on a string. Millwood has 14 years and 2500 innings pitched. What on God’s green earth does he have left?

To make matters laughable Bartolo “fattie” Colon is also in camp with these misfits. He makes the new CC Sabaitha look anorexic. Colon has 15 years experience but hasn’t played pro ball since 2009. He barely managed 60 innings and a 4.19 ERA.

Bottom Line – On a roster like the Yankees that still got pop Freddy Garcia and Ivan Nova might be good enough to steal W’s. This in turn makes them relevant in fantasy play. Not on draft day but definitely good 2 start weekly pitchers. I personally will keep a close eye on Nova and consider grabbing him off waivers if he continues to satisfy.
