Phillie Fantasy Baseball Sleepers

It’s January 3rd… I know I know. I can’t hide my excitement for fantasy baseball. Especially, with fantasy football all but over I have nothing left to focus on. I’m a Philly boy and I’m looking forward to another World Series. In fantasy play you always look for those possible sleepers.

Two players on the Phils I see as potential sleepers in 2011- Francisco and Kendrick. Ben Francisco is going to “platoon” time with Dominic Brown in right field. That is early prediction coming out of Philly. With Werth gone they have lost the “right” bat they need to make the lineup balanced. Utley and Howard are righties and without Werth the Phils are way tooooo lefty heavy. Dom Brown has waited for his shot but he has one problem – he is also a lefty. This is why I believe that Francisco has got a shot to be the every day right fielder by June. Snag Francisco late in your drafts and stash him on your bench. He isn’t a bad hitter with a lifetime .263 average. Bottom line – he is a right handed bat and he is all they got. After acquiring Cliff Lee they have no bank left to get another right handed hitter. Hedge your bets and look smart grabbing Francisco late.

Kyle Kendrick – Yes, the Kyle Kendrick that is married to Stephanie from Survivor. Yes, the same Kendrick that has bounced back and forth from the minor leagues. Joe Blanton will not be a Phillie by opening day. The Phils need to cut salary and Blanton is the only contract they can afford to move. This leaves Kendrick as the fifth starter. With Doc Halliday, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Roy Oswalt as your top 4 pitchers Kendrick is BOUND to learn something. I think Kendrick will reclaim his rookie glory and capture at least 14 wins by default. I wouldn’t be shocked if he puts up a respectable 3.60 ERA.

There is my food for thought on baseball on a rainy Monday morning in Philly…. Pitchers and Catchers report in a lil over a month!
