Some Keeper League Strategy

Tony RomoIn most keeper leagues the free agent market will lock up after this week’s championship game. In many leagues you won’t have to pick your keepers and cut your other players until very late in the 2011 offseason. For that reason, it’s time to change your roster up, right now.

Your roster no longer needs to be filled with players who have 2010 potential. Now it needs to be filled with players who have 2011 potential. You might be fairly sure of your keepers right now, but as offseason storylines evolve, they could change drastically. You’d rather have a roster full of players who could have keeper value before next season than washed up players on their last legs.

So if you’re not in the championship game, your whole roster can be overhauled. And even if you are in the championship, once you’ve secured your starting lineup you can still adjust your bench players.

Here’s some players who may be on the free agent market that you might like to pick up.

Ryan Grant – Grant owners may have dropped him after his season-ending ankle injury in Week 1 this season. If that’s the case, snaffle him up now, because he’ll probably be back to full strength in 2011.

Tony Romo – Like Grant, but a quarterback.

Tim Tebow – There will be a new head coach in Denver next season, and if Tebow’s performances in the last two weeks of the 2010 season are anything like his performance last weekend, he could be hot property in fantasy football next year.

Randy Moss – Moss is probably still owned, but if he isn’t, stash him right now. I think his poor play is just a lack of enthusiasm and system knowledge on his part. In the offseason he’ll be a free agent, and I think he might get a few nice offers. He could still have some solid fantasy value in 2011.

Michael Bush – With McFadden performing strongly and Bush in his contract year, don’t be surprised if you see Bush in a new uniform next season. He’s been the back behind McFadden for the last three years, and when he’s been in the spotlight, he’s been excellent.

Mike Sims-Walker – He might be available by now (although he played well last week). You know they’re going to change something up in the Jacksonville passing game over the offseason, and Sims-Walker is in his contract year. He’s still just 26.

Sidney Rice – You should have added Rice earlier this season and stashed him after his hip surgery, but if he’s still out their, grab him. He’s just 24 years old, and is spilling over with talent.

Demaryius Thomas – People may have forgotten about the first wide receiver taken in this year’s draft, but he can’t exactly have a Sophomore Slump in 2011 – he’s got just 22 receptions for 283 yards and 2 scores.

Dez Bryant – Roy Williams may have just held the starting job over him this season, but Bryant should rip it from his grasp in 2011 after ending this season on IR.

Other 2010 Rookies – Namely C. J. Spiller, Ryan Mathews, Jahvid Best, Arrelious Benn, Ben Tate, Montario Hardesty and Golden Tate.

Any others I’ve missed in the comments.
