WR3some – Ochocinco/Bennet/Amendola

So the playoffs are here. I accomplished my goal making the playoffs in all 4 of my leagues. Including the dreaded cheatful keeper league. That being accomplished its time to look at the WR3 spot or the “flex” play in some leagues. I picked up Ochocinco off the land of waivers, traded for Amendola mid-season, and am putting in for Earl Bennett this week. This leads to the dreaded decision on the right start and the flukie’s playoff strategy.

Chad Ochocinco– A classic year long bust. Hence, why I found him on waivers. He has scored 155 points in PPR but has only had 3 games with 20+ points this year. That being said he lead the team in targets with 10 last week and had 90 yards. Though, TO continues to outperform and vulture TDs. Ocho has got Pittsburgh this week. Typically people hear Pittsburgh and think tough matchup. However, this year PIT’s D is only 24th against the pass. This smells like a good spot to start Ocho even though he is definitely Robin to TO’s Batman.

Danny Amendola– I was slow to get on Amen’s bandwagon but a faithful reader AC convinced me of his merits. He has scored 184 points in PPR and has been the Rams most consistent WR this year. He also plays on punt returns so he gets bonus points. Last week he was cold only scoring 9 points. Before that however he had 5 straight games of 17+ points. That is as consistent as they come. Though they play the Saints this week who are typically VERY good against the pass. Granted, aging Ocho put up 90 yards against them last week. Amendola may have gotten me into the playoff dance but I’m not playing it safe. I’m going to sit Amendola just like I sat LT two weeks ago. Appreciate the contribution boys I’m on to the next hot hand.

Earl Bennett– If I have to type ONE MORE time about the so-called Vanderbuilt connection. It’s BS and just fluff that fantasy writers talk about week after week. This summer I was one of those writers pumping up Bennett. Bottom Line – Bennett has underperformed ALL YEAR LONG though he still managed to produce 104 points in PPR. Going in to the fantasy playoffs Bennett is as hot as they come. In the last two weeks he has produced 22 and 17 fantasy points. He racked up 107 yards last week on 7 catches. He has the Patriots woefully inexperienced secondary this week. This is a tasty matchup considering the Pats are 31st against the pass.

For those of you that have read me all year (and I thank you) you know I’m a proponent of the boom or bust play. I’m going to go out on a limb and recommend Bennett as a WR3 start this week. His two solid performances in a row and the Pat’s weak corners make it too good of a matchup to overlook. Wishing you all the best in the fantasy playoffs!

—-editor’s note: Also I posted something a few days back about cheating or strategy in a PPR league. It’s an interesting debate and I’m looking forward to more feedback from fellow readers.
