Gut Call – Olde Man Mason

Tonight is the beginning of  Thursday night football. I’m stoked about this. Gives a purpose to the middle of a the fantasy week. Derrick Mason and I go way back. He has been in this league for 14 years. As long as I have played fantasy football there has been Derrick Mason. Early in the year I dropped him because I believed in the Boldin and Housh hype. I now regret that decision as he still is producing at a consistent level in PPR play.

Mason is that steady confident receiver that Flacco trusts. As the year progresses and the games become more valuable Mason’s play is becoming more apparent. He is only averaging 10 points in PPR play this year. Throw out his average and look at his game performances against tough defenses – Pit 14 points, NE 18 points, and Miami 14 points. When Flacco needs that catch to extend the chains Mason is always there. Of course it doesn’t hurt that Miami’s Channing Crowder called him “old”. Well Old Man Mason still has enough left in the tank for one last punch. Grabbing Housh and Boldin was one heck of a smart move it enabled Mason to save what gas was left in his tank for the playoff push.

This is a key game against  two 6-2 rivals who run and play great D. This is a perfect spot for Mason to put up  6 catches for 80 yards and if we are LUCKY he sneaks in a TD. In most leagues Mason isn’t available off waivers but if he is hanging on your bench he is worthy of a start this week. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts up WR2 numbers the rest of the way.

I also want to make you aware of a promo Papa John’s is running. They have hooked up with another olde man – Antonio Gates. He is their judge for the PJ’s “Fantasy to Reality contest” in which they are looking for the best fantasy football league in the nation. You might as well sign up and see if you can win a trip to the 2011 NFL draft in NYC. I’d love to hang out in NYC for the w/e and get liquored up and boo your team’s first round pick….oh wait I already did that when the Eagles drafted Donovan McNabb…haha

Anyway to sign up you can register at  www.papajohns.com or on their facebook page – www.facebook.com/papajohns . Feel free to try your luck in my eyes a free trip is a GREAT trip.
