Sell High: 6 Fantasy Ships to Abandon

Boom or bust. That’s the only way to win in fantasy football. If you play conservatively, you may do well, but your chances of winning it all are pretty slim. The winning owners know when to make gutsy moves, and some of those moves involve selling high on good players that may be about to see a decline in production. Maybe think about trading some of these guys away sooner, rather than later.

1. Kyle Orton. Sure, Orton is performing strongly so far this season. But the Broncos are 2-6, and Knowshon Moreno is looking healthier than he has since training camp. ABANDON SHIP!

2. Tom Brady. Without Moss, the Patriots have had to retool their offense. Since losing Moss, Brady has averaged 23o yards and 1 touchdown a game, and has thrown 2 interceptions. Yes, he’s had to face good defenses in Baltimore, San Diego and Minnesota, but with Moss gone, it’s still time to ABANDON SHIP!

3. LeSean McCoy. You’ll still definitely be able to sell McCoy high, and in the last two weeks he’s averaging just 3 yards a carry and hasn’t scored a touchdown. In fact, he’s only scored touchdowns in 3 of the 7 games he’s started this season. ABANDON SHIP!

4. LaDanian Tomlinson. Another running back who you should be able to sell high. Tomlinson is averaging 3.4 yards per in his last 2 games, and although he scored two touchdowns in the game at Denver, he has rushed for just 54.5 yards in those 2 games. He may be surprising for now, but later in the season his age will get to him. Maybe wait for this week’s game against Detroit, then ABANDON SHIP!

5. Miles Austin. Reasons for selling Austin high are obvious. With Romo out, the Cowboys’ passing game is hurting off the bat. Add that to the fact that Kitna has showed that he likes to spread the ball around, and that Austin has scored less than 4 points (in most formats) three times this season, and it’s looking like time to ABANDON SHIP!

6. Mike Sims-Walker. Sims-Walker is one of the most inconsistent fantasy players in the NFL. He scored less than 3 points (in most formats) six times last season, and has done so again three times so far again this season. Just like great football players, great fantasy football players are consistent. Over the last two weeks Sims-Walker has put up 2 touchdowns and 191 yards, so now you can sell him high and avoid his inconsistent ass later in the season. ABANDON SHIP!

    Oliver you seriouss? Mccoy is a stud in the Eagles offense. They hate running backs but they throw to them constantly. The only reason Mccoy’s numbers are down is bc Kolb is under center. With Vick back Mccoy will perform… I disagree my man my brotha.

    —as for who im abondoning….this is an easy one Percy Harvin. He is injured yet again and with no Moss and a crippled FAvre Harvin gonna be hurting even if he plays…

  2. Oliver says:

    McCoy doesn’t seem to receive as effectively with Vick under center, though. Through the first 3 weeks (in which Vick played most, if not all of the Eagles snaps), McCoy accumulated just 11 catches for only 62 yards. He also doesn’t have a receiving touchdown this season. Vick seems to pass more to wide receivers, and his passes to McCoy always seem to be in shorter yardage situations.

    genious…….did you see mccoy in the detroit game? he had 34 fantasy points w vick uder center…..vick got hurt in washington and mccoy put up 27 fantasy points……kolb enters and mccoy points go down 25 SF…. 12 atlanta 16 tenessee..

    guess what? Vick back and mccoy points go up!!!! you do play ff, yes?

  4. AC Slater says:

    good call with LT and walker. but austin can be really good espcially in the fantasy football playofffs when romo comes back.

  5. The Fantasy Flukie says:

    @AC – I don’t think Romo will bother coming back this year w. a 1 win team.

    @jovan – mccoy only had 13 points….looks like Oliver’s point is valid….

  6. Oliver says:

    And add another poor performance from Austin and LT.
