The Sexy Fantasy Football Strategy

There is the safe way to play fantasy football and there is the “sexy” way. Granted, being sexy isn’t always for the prudish folks. At this point of the season either you are looking pretty at 7-1 or 5-3 or you are STRUGGLING at 3-5 or 2-7 and need to win out the rest of the way. Time to give up your prude ways and role on over to the sexy side. Let’s give some examples of trades you can make or strategies that will pull you out of the basement.

I preface this by saying my team is 4-4 in this PPR league. For example I mortgaged my team away to obtain Chris Johnson and Tom Brady. I traded Jamaal Charles, Brandon Marshall, Tony Moeki, and the rapist “Big Ben” FOR Chris Johnson, Greg Jennings, Tom Brady, and Danny Woodhead. Being sexy I shook up my whole roster…why you might add? Because I felt the pulse of the league and I knew I could flip Chris Johnson and Brady for better players. CJ is still CJ but is dogged by the curse (he will not have another 2000 yard season) and Brady is no longer a QB1 but still has the name. Brady is the perfect QB to flip to the sad soul that lost Romo.

I immediately flipped Brady for Zach Miller (yes that fantasy player had Romo) and the following week I flipped Chris Johnson for Andre Johnson and Johnny Knox. Can you all follow the madness? I know it’s getting complicated. Bottom Line – I had a gluten of QB’s even after these trades in Freeman and Michael Vick. Look at the new starting lineup: Michael Vick, Jahvid Best, Greg Jennings, Andre Johnson, Johnny Knox, and Zach Miller. I have confidence that this team will take me to the promised land aka the “fantasy playoffs.” I also have Danny Amendola. With this new lineup the toughest decision I have is whether to start Amendola or Knox.

The sexy PPR play is the run and shoot – 3WR, 1 RB. The key to the PPR run and shoot is that your “lone” RB has to catch the ball. Best catches the ball which makes him a “double threat” to receive and run TDs. I realize some of you think Best’s stock has fallen after his week 2 breakout….alas the key to his success is the return of Matthew Stafford. Stafford will help to re balance their offense and enable Best to be more effective. Anyway run and shoot is more of a hit or miss type approach. You will either rock your opponent or be crushed by him. If your team is 4-4 or worse you need to make aggressive sexy plays to make the playoffs. The slow and steady approach of average RB’s is not going to get it done. The trade deadline is approaching in most leagues and this may be our last opportunity to go aggressive. If you have not had luck at the waiver wire then this may be your last chance to be fantasy relevant.

On a side note…LaGarette Blount is playing the 6th ranked run defense this week…so expect him to disappoint his owners. Why do I tell you this? Because after this disappointing performance make an offer for Blount. You most likely will be able to get him for a Santonio Holmes, Eddie Royal, or a Steve Johnson. Blount will pay his dividends especially if you look at his playoff schedule – week 14 he plays Washington, week 15 Detroit, and week 16 Seattle. Blount doesn’t catch passes but with a schedule that soft in the fantasy playoffs you don’t even need to be sexy just smart.

Feel free to post trade questions as my staff and myself are always here to help ya’all out with trying to get smart and sexy… Sometimes shuffling the cards and going run and shoot is all you need to become competitive and successful.

    Need some help:

Week 9 – Ray Rice or LaGarrett Blount (must win game) – I feel like Blount has the potential to post a bigger number where rice is certain to get more touches…..

    Open for discussion.

@Auburnbri- this is a tough call. McGahee and Rice have turned into a committee. Changing Rice’s value from a stud to a dude. Is it a PPR league? if it is I might give the edge to Rice…. Otherwise I go . BLount and hop he punches in the TDs….BLount is playing against the 6th best run defense so he isnt a smal dunk either……gun to my head? go blount…I have two rules 1- never bench a stud (rice is no longer a stud) and 2- play the hot hand – blount
