Five Brews for Bradford..What’s his Fave?

Sam Bradford (other than Kyle Orton) is the fantasy surprise of the year. I realize his last outing was subpar and he lost his leading receiver Mark Clayton but I still have faith in Bradford. He has 5 WRs to choose from to find that next Clayton connection. I’m a bit on the crazy side so I realized that 4 out of 5 of those receivers were on waivers in my keeper PPR league. I picked up the 4 players who were available – Brandon Gibson, Mardy Gilyard, Laurent Robinson, and Danario Alexander. I decided to go 5 for 5 and I traded for Danny Amendola. This may seem extreme to own 5 Rams WRs but when up against a wall I keep hitting till I break through. FACT: Mark Clayton is out for the year. FACT: Sam Bradford is going to continue to throw the cover off the ball. Knowing those two facts you can take an educated guess that 1 of these 5 is going to become Bradford’s deep threat. Lets break down their chances.

Danny Amendola – the hands down favorite in the fantasy community. FACT: Amendola made 12 catches for 95 yards in last week’s game. FICTION: Amendola is a deep threat. Danny is a great over the middle possession receiver but he dos not have the physical attributes to be a deep threat at 5’11 186lbs. In a PPR league he will be worth his weight in gold. This is why I traded for him. Heck, I’m starting him over Gaffney this week. Gaff has a rough matchup against NYJ but Amendola’s isn’t much better. San Diego’s D is only giving up 9 fantasy points per game to WRs. I think for this week Amendola is a stone cold lock of the week. I predict 15-20 points easy in a PPR league.

Danario Alexander – This is the Rams WILDCARD. He went undrafted because of knee injuries. The Rams picked him up and threw him on their practice squad. He had knee surgery in February and is still not 100%. He hasn’t even taken a football hit since college. All that being said he has the physical requirements to be an end zone/deep threat talent at 6’5 215lbs. The irony of him being promoted from the practice squad to replace Mark Clayton’s season ending knee surgery is a riot. The beauty of Alexander is that he already knows the playbook. He could be the next receiver that Bradford develops a rapport with. My gut says he is going to be the guy. I also think he is going to need 2-3 weeks to get up to speed.

Laurent Robinson- I hate to say it but he was last year’s Mark Clayton. Looked great early then had a season ending injury. Robinson’s career has been injury plagued (hence why Atlanta gave up on him) and his best days are behind him. He is fighting thru a foot injury and in essence is a waste of a roster spot. That being said I am hedging my bets and holding him till I know I’m right for sure.

Brandon Gibson- He is the sleeper in all of this. I’m not sure about him. Ramsgab says that he is Mr. Butterfinger but I’m not quite as harsh. At 6’0 210lbs physically he might be Bradford’s best Clayton stop gab. His speed is decent and his height is there. If my wild card Alexander can’t pull it off the next legit option is Gibson. Being a betting man I lean towards Gibson as being a legit bye week replacement play for the next 2-3 weeks. After that we will see if Alexander is ready to role….if not Gibson may have to step up and “be half the man I used to be”….

Mardy Gilyard – FACT: he once lived in a car. That is about the only thing I can tell you about him. I know he was a touted rookie that physically is as thin as my high school physique at 5’11 194lbs. He is a speedster and that is the reason that he is returning kickoffs. He isn’t quite ready for the NFL prime time but desperate times call for desperate measures. Expect to see his role increase as they tried him in Clayton’s place during the Lions game. I wouldn’t play him in fantasy but he may stick one never knows.

Bottom line – I don’t know WHICH Rams WR will step up. That is why I am taking this insane approach and picking up EVERY Rams WR in my keeper league. At the end of the day one of these receivers will step up and I will be the fantasy player having him on my roster. I want to win and I’m a WR away….when in doubt take them all because no one else will 🙂
