WR Unknown Drop/Adds – One Week Plays

By this time of the week waivers have cleared and the true digging begins. Last week I advocated adding Blair White and Stephen Williams. Neither were overly effective but I do think that Stephen Williams will put up 10-12 points this week. Arizona’s O was horrific and I feel that Max Hall will be given the opportunity to start. With Max Hall they will be able to take some more shots downfield. Assuming Fitz draws the coverage Williams should be able to hall down some receptions. He is most likely just a one week play because Breaston is expected to be back by week 6.

I have a good feeling about Brandon Stokley. We all know the name from his days as a Bronco. He was cut and picked up by Seattle. He was only with them a week when he managed to catch 4 balls for 62 yards. Seattle has issues at receiver with the oft injured Mike Williams and the ancient Deion Branch. Its obvious (and painful for me to admit) that Golden Tate is not ready for the NFL. With a WR core in shambles there is nothing like a trusted veteren to settle down the horses.  Stokley has a week to get up to speed with the Hawks being on their bye. Feel free to grab him this week or next off add/drops before people begin to notice him. His value is higher in PPR leagues. Granted his value is simply a bye week replacement for those in desperate need.

I typically don’t pay attention to Buffalo Bills but Steve Johnson has caught my eye. I am concerned that some of his numbers may be a fluke but he is averaging 3 catches a game with a TD in the last two games. It seems that he has caught Ryan Fitzpatrick’s eye. He is a WR to keep an eye on. Not necessarily worth a pick up yet but may be in the near future.

Devery Henderson also made 6 grabs for 59 yards in a low scoring game against Carolina. As long as Reggie Bush is out Lance Moore holds the most value. However, with Bush out, Henderson’s role in the offense increases. He is a worthy bye week replacement player at least until Bush returns to the field. Yes, I realize Bush is a RB, but in the Saints system he is used more like a WR out of the slot.

Jason Avant also has value as a one week play. With Vick out and Kolb in Celek and Avant’s value goes up. Kolb is having issues going down field and this is good news for the hardest working WR in football Jason Avant (notice I didn’t say the most talented…or he would have pulled in Kolb’s hail mary). Avant could pull in 6-7 catches for close to a 100 yards next week. Especially if the Kolb check down special is still on tap.

Harry Douglas had 3 catches for 59 yards and 1 TD against SF last week. Why this is good for Jason Avant (who is facing SF this week) it doesn’t bode so well for Douglas. I was all over the Douglas wagon this week until I realized that Jenkins is back. While I think Douglas may still contribute (since Jenkins has done poo in the league so far) it definitely means less targets on a run first team. Douglas isn’t worth a start until we see how he acclimates with the Jenkin’s addition.

—-I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Randy Moss trade. This one is simple. Upgrade Moss, Favre, Brandon Tate, and Harvin. Downgrade Brady, Rice (if he ever returns), and cut Berrian from your fantasy roster.

—–As for the Lynch trade. Eck, I was hoping for GB but Seattle is better then the worse NFL franchise in Buffalo. Expect Lynch to contribute right away with approximately 10-12 fantasy points a game. I have to see how Forsett and Lynch play together. If they play together like they did in Cal then this could be a Thunder and Lighting combo similiar to Charlie Garner and Ricky Watters.
