Don’t Get Too Cute Week 1

I’m just as guilty as the next guy. I OVER ANALYZE week 1 and try to get too cute. I stare at kickers and defenses OVER and OVER again. Though, I have to give a shout out to the Arizona D and the Dallas Kicker (I don’t know his name nor do I care to, its a kicker!) this week. I like their matchups.

Don’t go balls out on a WR or RB that you THINK will go well.  Trust the rankings whether it be sportsline, fftoolbox, or my fav the index. Once the season gets underway you can start taking some risks. You have to get some W’s under your belt before you can make that “rockstar” play that everyone talks about in the off week.

I had to decided between Jonathan Stewart and Clinton Portis this week. Both have tough matchups in NYG and DAL. I went with plan C Jabar Gaffney based on the rankings. He is playing a pathetic D in JAX and I have been tooting Gaffney’s horn since May. I might as well put my money where my mouth is. If I put a gun to my head with JSte and old man Portis I would reluctantly go with Portis. All the rankings have given him the edge.

Its the simple veteran play that happens every year. What is that play? Its giving the veteran the majority of the carries early on and as the season progresses reversing that trend and letting the young back labor. The logic? To leave some gas in the old Ford for the playoff run. Arizona and Carolina is following the trend giving Hightower and DWil the start week 1. Whisenhunt, Fox, and Shanahan understand they need more then one horse to win the race. Hightower is a GREAT play week 1 because of the matchup. Portis is a serviceable play since he is the only back getting the looks down to down. I have no faith in LJ and I know that Keiland Williams will be sharing carries with Portis by week 10. DWil has a tough D but he is a beast. Start DWil with confidence. I can’t say the same for JStu….Fox seems to be giving the lean to DWil early. I believe that is because he is a touch nervous about JStu’s achilles. Stu is healthy but this is the first in a long time.

Everyone thinks their team is great week 1. Don’t forget that! Give it a couple weeks and you can start leveraging those guys off your bench that have started hot and heavy. Better to unload those guys before their “needs” dry up.

On a side note I feel that Brees is going to lite up old man Favre tonight 27-17. Pierre Thomas is going to have one of his better fantasy nights all year.

Fluckie good pick up on a kicker. You never told your audience why you picked up Nick Folk to begin with. Please explain. I happen to have some friends that trusted you over me and Picked up Nick Folk because you did. They spent extra money on a kicker because of YOU. The least you can do is let everyone know why they waisted their money?

i changed my tune bc of folk’s matchup….if you don’t have the dollars to play fantasy then you shouldn’t play…gotta spend to win….that is the name of the game….last i checked this was gambling.
