Fantasy Roundup – Whats Hot Whats Not!

Sorry I took the last couple days off. Didn’t want to burn out before the start of the season. I also would like to thank our feature writers Scott J Pachman and Seth J Pollock for stepping up in my absence. I think their work is VERY compelling. They are helping to make my dream a reality.

Derek Anderson – He is starting this preseason game against Chicago. I picked him up in my keeper league on a flier (full disclosure I dropped Brian Robiske). He has a cannon of an arm and I have to admit I have a soft spot for Derek. I picked him up two years ago in a PPR league and he helped me win a championship after my starting QB went down. Bottom Line – Matt Leinhart SUCKS! Its just a matter of time until he is benched. If Derek plays well tomorrow and can connect with Fitz then I believe the job will be his. Maybe not week 1 but for sure by week 5. Whisenhunt have a short tolerance for losing and this bodes well for Anderson’s value. Let’s not forget what he did with a pathetic Browns team 2 years ago.

Kareem “Huggy Bear” Huggins RB TB – He is moving up the ranks. He is pretty much locked up as the #2 RB in Tampa with Derek Ward’s concussion. Why do you care about a #2 RB? Well in this situation we all know that Cadillac is one hit away from an injury. Though he has been very resilient his injury risk remains high. Huggins is also more of a slasher so that gives him big play potential. He is one of only 3 runnings backs on my keeper league roster – MJD, Hightower, and Huggy. Of course my followers know that I believe in the run and shoot approach in fantasy play.

Sam Bradford – Looked great against New England. Spags is no idiot however and will not just throw him to the wolves. I strongly believe that he will be starting by week 6. At the moment it looks like journeyman “AJ Feeley” will still line up behind center to start the season.

Laurent Robinson / Mardy Gilyard – He is now #1 on the depth chart at WR for St Louis. Donnie Avery has a “substantial” knee injury that will sideline him for the entire 2010 season. I was big on Robinson last year and he gave me 2 good weeks until he fractured his leg. Some feel the injury to Avery will hurt Robinson’s value. I disagree. He will be the only safety net Feeley has. This is good however for “the man who slept in cars” Mardy Gilyard. His value  skyrockets. Not that the rocket goes too far but Gilyard has sleeper potential and is worth a flier in all leagues.

Leon Washington – He is starting Saturday. We all know that Carroll isn’t happy with the RB committee. I still feel that Justin Forsett is the back with the most value on the Seahawk’s roster. To be honest if you have room I would consider stashing Washington at least for the first couple games and see how he plays out.

Greg Camarillo – He was traded to the Vikings to bolster up their failing wide receiver core. I feel slightly more encouraged with him as a WR. He is obviously much better then a Javon Walker with a “experimental knee replacement” and Greg Lewis. I know Lewis won an Espy for the play of the year. One play doesn’t translate into WR2 material. Camarillo is a interesting play for fantasy. Of the guys I listed in this article I think Robinson has the most upside just because he is a lock for WR1 but Camarillo has an outside shot at WR2 with Favre throwing to him. Worst case scenerio he is a WR3 with a “migraine” away from being a 2 on a Superbowl contending team.

I’ll bring more to you after the preseason games on Saturday since there is actually fantasy interest in Derek Anderson and Leon Washington. Seth has a good piece coming up next with regards to making fantasy “lemonade.”

Not A Gillyard Fan. Who should I pick up Danny Amendolla or Brandon Gibson or Stephen Williams?

  2. fantasy flukie says:

You got me on Brandon Gibson and Stephen Williams. Gotta do more homework. Since I’ve only heard of Gilyard and Amendolla……i say none of the above…hahah….go amendolla

  3. Tmoney says:

Amendolla will be # 2 and return punts. He is a poor mans Welker in my opinion and will flourish with Bradford in that role.

I agree that Gilyard will at best be option #3 and return Kickoffs

@tmoney – When do you think Bradford gets under center? week 6? IF so will Amendolla truly hold value? just a thought.
