To Be or Not to Be…..

Brett Favre is a boob. Not only did he pseudo-retire AGAIN he also got caught with his pants down literally http://deadspin.com/5603701/brett-favre-once-sent-me-cock-shots-not-a-love-story – Bottom Line: Brett stop your whining, zip it up, and play some football. We need you in the world of fantasy! Bernard Berrian needs you! Without you Mr. Favre the Vikings wide receiver core will be as poor as the Jaguars WRs. Heck, I bet Mike Sims-Walker puts up better numbers then ANY Vikings receiver with Tavaris Jackson at QB. Mr. Favre doesn’t 20 years sound better than 19? Give us one more year BIG BOY!

Not too much new in fantasy this week. Some talk out of Cardinals camp that Beanie Wells is taking snaps with the second team (http://www.fftoolbox.com/football/nfl_news.cfm?news_id=1813). This should be of no surprise. Whisenhunt is EXTREMELY loyal to veterans. Hightower with the first team is more a respect thang then anything else. Be confident that Wells will be valuable in fantasy play this year. He has the skill set to not only run but to catch the ball. I do think Hightower is a bye week replacement/ flex play this year in fantasy play. The true diamond in Arizona is going to be Wells. Whisenhunt is going back to his Pittsburgh roots with the loss of Warner – RUN, RUN, RUN! This means BOTH Hightower and Wells have value. Wells has a much higher ceiling whereas Hightower is closer to the floor.

Bernard Berrian’s value may rise (assuming Favre is back). It looks like the Sidney Rice injury is more severe then previously reported. Even if Rice plays he will not be as effective. There is no way his conditioning is up to snuff. Rice is going to be perhaps the biggest fantasy letdown of 2010.

I am hearing good things about Golden Tate coming from Seattle. He will be the #1 WR for years to come. I’m jut not sure this will be the year. I will draft him mid to late rounds on sheer upside alone. I felt that Dez Bryant might be that rookie WR that breaks the trend and plays like a #1 from the gate. That expectation has been hampered a bit with his ankle injury. I still feel he will shine but it won’t be until week 5-6 as opposed to week 1. I would still draft him above Tate and hopefully this injury will scare some potential draftees away leaving him for us to scoop up later in the draft.

I am in a PPR league and picked up Mike Thomas. He had 48 receptions last year as a rookie and almost 500 yards and he did not play in the first two games. He has a similar build to Welker and Steve Smith. He holds the Pac 10 record for receptions. What kind of upside do you see for him this year?

What do you think of Craig Davis I am hearing good things about him too?

@AC – I like Mike Thomas a great deal. A young player w. much upside. Someone has to line up opposite of MJD and it looks like it will be him. The drawback? He is a WR2 on a Run first team. That affects his fantasy upside. I say 700 yards 4 TDs is a safe projection

Craig Davis? I know nothing. I assume you mean Buster Davis in SD. I can’t say much about him. In SD this year the only WR I see with value is Floyd.

Thanks for getting back fantasy Fluckie. All reports out of SD is that Craig Davis looks really good. He is going into his 3rd year and he was a first round pick who was hurt in the past. Do you think Craig Davis has the upside to be a low 3 wideout / High number 4 if Vjax does not come back? How many receptions for my boy Mike Thomas this year I am thinking between 65 and 72 What do you think?

  4. fantasy flukie says:

I think Mike Thomas will put up similiar stats as Santana Moss 2009 – 70 catches 902 yards 3td’s – I do think his yards will be round 700 however and maybe 4-5 TD’s…..respectable WR2 numbers….AC – understand this is best case scenerio…. worst case is 500 yards 2 TDs 55 catches….

  5. fantasy flukie says:

Not a believer in Craig Davis….400 yards maybe a TD.
