The 12th Pick

Much has been made over the 12th pick in a fantasy football draft. I believe in a “shock and awe”approach to the 12 spot. Go big and go strong. Go for the opposite of what people expect. At 12 in the first round you get a bottom of the ladder 1 or a high 2 RB. Forgetaboutthat! Go for a 1 WR. If that 1 WR isn’t there shock the world and go for a #1 QB. In my eyes only three QB’s are worth taking there- Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Peyton Manning.

Now the beauty of 12 is that you get back to back picks. Using my logic you would take a 1WR on the flip. This does leave you in a tough spot going into the 24th pick. The RB depth is FANTASTIC this year with regards to the rookie class that can make an impact (I’m not so high on the rookie WR class). So if you don’t like what you see at 24 take a Ryan Matthews, Ben Tate, Jahvid Best, Montario Hardesty, Marion Barber (injuries happen), Clinton Portis (there is gas in that tank…don’t forget Shanahan created Portis), etc.

So now we have a 1QB, 1WR, and a borderline 1RB. Its time to go for a Garcon, Driver,  Maclin, S Moss, etc. Go for that high 2 WR to fill out the lineup.

When the next pick comes back go for the RBs that people are down on- Matt Forte, Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, etc. The RBs that could make a difference that people have written off. If you don’t go that route then blow the world up and go for a top echelon TE. TEs typically shouldn’t be taken till the end of a draft. So in this instance be that jacka** and reach for a Dallas Clark, Zach Miller, or a Tony Gonzalez….it’s worth the play.

Now this is the first 4 picks. After this it gets interesting. More to come tomorrow on my analysis of the 12 spot. After 4 we get into the nitty gritty. We have to go for those value picks that either no one believes in or knows about….That my flukie followers is where I thrive. I will break down all those “undesirable players” tomorrow. Play close attention to what comes next!
