Fantasy Rookie RB’s 2010

Here is my list of  rookie RBs that will make a difference in 2010. I have a keeper league draft in a week so I’m getting all brushed up on my rookies. Figured I would pass this data along! There is some depth this year in rookie RBs. Two or three backs this year will make significant impact on your fantasy team. Deciding which one of those backs have the highest upside is the tricky part.

Ryan Matthews (SD) – This is as obvious as it gets. I’m high on Matthews. In fact I would take him late 1st round early 2nd round. Some might say that is too high. But he will be the starting back on day 1! Sproles will continue to be the 3rd down back. Sproles will still get his look and will have above average value for a Reggie Bush type back. However Matthews ceiling is much higher.

Jahvid Best (DET) – Can catch the ball out of the backfield and has speed. Kevin Smith has been a disappointment and is coming off an injury. Early indications are that Best will start. Detroit is finally on its way back from the depths of hell and Best will have a role in this renaissance.

Ben Tate (HOU) – I despise backs in Houston. I personally won’t go near Tate. But the talking heads are high on him. They are saying he is big and bad and will be the started. Looks like Slaton/Foster company may still get action on 3rd downs. Heck with the way that coach is he could use them all.

Montario Hardesty (CLE) – Looks like Harrison is dead in Cleveland. Might as well stick a fork in him and rotate him on the rostierre! Hardesty will start and have the majority of the workload. There is a the potential of a Bush/McFadden combo like in Oakland but that remains to be seen.

Dexter McCluster (KC) – He isn’t even going to be used as a RB. He will like up as a WR but hold the RB designation in fantasy. This is where is presents minimal if any value. He may hold some value in a PPR league as a bye weeks replacement. I will take a flyer on him in the last 2 rounds if he is still there.

Jonathan Dwyer (PIT) – I have the sneaking suspicionthat he will steal some looks from Mendenhall. Pittsburgh has already said they have recommitted to the run. Dwyer is one injury away from being the starter. If you draft Mendenhall I would strongly suggest Dwyer as a handcuff. If you are a prick like myself draft Dwyer and root for Mendenhall to tear his MCL.

Toby Gerhart (MIN) – White RB? nuff’ said. He will backup AP. In my eyes not worth a draft position.

C.J. Spiller (BUF) – Another Reggie Bush style back. Will spell Fred Jackson. Again I do not see him worthy of a draft position.
