Men From Boys

This is the weekend many fantasy players yearn for. Three of my teams are 3-4 going into this week. If myself or any of my readers want to make the playoffs this is a crucial week. This is a “take no prisoners” week. 4-4 feels much better then 3-5. At 4-4 we are in the thick of the hunt. At 3-5 we are at “breaking point.” Granted it isn’t over at that record but it leads no place for error. The rest of the way you would need incredible luck or fantastic prowess in picking the perfect matchups with mid to low end talent to hit the playoffs jackpot.

So I again went shock and awe. I traded AP for Calvin Johnson and Marion Barber in my keeper league. I’m playing the 1-6 team this week so I have a very good chance of winning without AP. Even if Megatron doesn’t play this week I should win. It was a gutsy trade but with a lack of depth on my keeper team and the fact that I won’t be able to afford AP next year (whereas I will be able to hold onto both Barber and CJ) it gives me a good (but not great) chance to win this year and a great chance to be successful next year. Don’t forget this is the league where possible collusion happened with the MJD for Benson trade. So in reality I’m not even playing for this year. I’ll consider it a victory if I make the championship game. At least some prize money would come back my way.

Onto my recommendations. Dennis Northcut is a desperation play this week. I’m having a hard time getting a good read if CJ is going to play. And if he does play will he be effective? So if CJ doesn’t go I feel confident playing Northcutt. If CJ does go Northcutt is much more of a gamble. Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie are a good play this week. Indy is playing a tough D in SF but I have confidence in Manning. Gonzo STILL isn’t ready to go. I’m beginning to wonder if he is EVER going to play again this year. Very frustrating if you are a Gonzo owner (which I am). Braylon Edwards is also a good play this week with Cotchery coming back. Forte is a one week wonder. Play him this week against Cleveland then bench him until you see a flicker of hope. I also traded AP so I could get Forte out of my lineup. I’ll go down the playoff stretch running the run and shoot with Barber as my only RB and Edwards, Megatron, and Miles Austin as my WR. Forte rides the pine the rest of the year unless a miracle occurs. If by some insane chance someone wants Forte after his good performance against Cleveland pull the trigger and make the trade. If you really are reaching for a WR play for a bye week replacement then Jeremy Maclin is a longshot. I’m an Eagles fan and I’m having a tough time feeling out Maclin. Common sense tells me the Giants will load up on Desean and this means open looks for Maclin.

As for RB plays Sproles is a good one. Rivers typically doesn’t throw much against Oakland. Oakland is poor against the run. LT is the main back but Sproles is getting more looks due to LT’s stunning inefficiency. Play Sproles with confidence this week. If you are lucky enough to have Sproles and LT play them BOTH. If you have Rivers consider benching him if you have a good QB on your bench with a favorable matchup. Jamaal Charles is on bye this week but if he is out there on your waivers pick him up. I have sneaking suspicion that LJ won’t see the field again this year so it is Charles time to shine. If you have Ahmad Bradshaw beware. He is playing with a broken foot. Sounds crazy but this is a contract year for him so he will play not matter what. He wants that payday especially with an uncapped year on the horizon. I like Bradshaw but I would not play any Giant’s RB against the Eagles this week. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Beanie Wells. Tim Hightower’s time is coming to an end. Wells will be a great back down the stretch for fantasy players. Feel confident to play him going forward. As for Hightower I warned you. Also if you have Addai you are one lucky bastard. Brown is hurt so Addai is the man for the next couple weeks. Addai has been a solid surprise this year.

Any other questions email me from the contact page or post a response to this article. I’ll be on my computer all Sunday morning so I’ll respond then.
